The truth shines bright

Often with venerable brands strong work comes out of interrogating origins and reviving values that really matter. This may be an especially good time to do that.

So it was for ANTI’s work on the Deichmann library in Oslo. In an era of fake news, flexible facts and partisan propaganda, the case for great public libraries is being reasserted.

Back in 1885, the businessman and philanthropist Carl Deichmann donated his books to the people of Oslo. When ANTI came to consider the brand evolution of the Deichmann, now a cultural institution that has various facets, it realised the purpose of enlightenment that originated with its founder’s gift still applied, even if the technologies may have moved on.

Hence illumination is a metaphor that sits across the new branding, which extends across the whole range of graphic expression of the library. This was due to be seen in its fullest form within the new building, the Deichman Bjørvika, originally scheduled to open in spring 2020.

When it opens the building will house not only the book collection but a movie theatre, media workshops, gaming zones, lounges and a restaurant, among other things.

The graphic language and iconography has been developed to work across an evolving multi-media brand, and be both accessible and welcoming while also in keeping with the status of the institution in Norway.
